If asked "What do you do?" What Would You Say? #personaldevelopment#lifecoaching

You matter. I mean it. You actually matter.

When asked the question, "What do you do?" our response ideally would extend far beyond a job description.

“I’m a butcher, a baker, a mom, a dad, a meat-worker, a student”

While an occupation may define a portion of your daily activities, it fails to encapsulate the breadth and depth of your real impact on the lives of others.

Speaking for myself, I am more than a title or a set of responsibilities.

I am an agent of change, a catalyst for growth, and a beacon of positivity in the lives of those I encounter. Or at least, I aim to be. In essence, we all facilitate transformation. Whether through direct interaction, mentorship, or leading by example.  On some level, we all strive to influence individuals positively, instilling in them a sense of empowerment and possibility. Our ultimate aim should not be to merely complete tasks or fulfill obligations, but rather to make a tangible difference in the lives of those around us.

An operative may get out of bed in the small wee hours, and dig up a road, fix a pipe, and go about his or her business. Ask them what they do they’ll say “I’m a manual worker.”

Entire communities get up, turn on their taps and access clean drinking water. Everyday.

Take a family of four. Mam, Dad, two kids. All drinking clean water. All healthy. All able to fulfill their duties and obligations because they are not taken out by a water-borne virus or impurity. Someone provided this.

No one is “Just a manual worker.”!!

So let’s reframe our terms of reference. Assisting those in need is not just a duty, but a calling. Whether it's offering guidance, lending a listening ear, or providing practical support, being  committed to helping others navigate life's challenges and overcome obstacles shows how we recognise the value of fostering connections and building stronger communities.

So why not try to infuse each day with a little light and positivity? A smile, a kind word, or a thoughtful gesture will brighten the days of any you encounter. In a world often fraught with stress and uncertainty, the power of small ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ uplift spirits and foster a sense of connection and belonging.

You are also a custodian of wisdom and knowledge. Sharing insights, experiences, and lessons learned, you have the potential to inspire and empower others on their journeys. By serving as a role model and mentor, you cultivate a culture of continuous learning and development within all those you encounter.

Is it not the case that every interaction, no matter how seemingly insignificant, holds the potential to make a meaningful difference? The values of integrity, authenticity, and compassion leaves your positive imprint on the world around you.

You are so much more than a job description. You are an agent for change, a source of inspiration, and a force for good.

In every action you take and every word you speak, you have an opportunity amplify one simple truth: that each of us has the power to make a difference, and that our positive contributions, however small, are all significant and worthwhile.
