What The Point of The Seven Pillars ?

Back in January '24, I described  'Seven Pillars of Growth':

#1: Self Awareness

#2: Awareness of others

#3: Meaning

#4: Learning

#5:  Resilience

#6: Forgiveness

#7: Presence

Since then I have been writing an e-book about this, and aim to turn it into an online programme in which one can work each of the seven pillars into ones' life, relationships, business, health parenting and such.

In my view, it is good to have seven pillars to hold you up.

I've found that it is practically impossible to live these values; in isolation. Each one supports the other in some way.

So what does this mean for you and me?

It means we are developing a values system that can be applied across the work we do on ourselves and with other people. We don't have to literally teach people how to use these pillars, but it is part of our shared understanding about what personal development means.

Undeniably, there are many mixed motivations involved. Often we frame our self-perceived inadequacy as our reason to want to 'improve'. Be it money, romance, parenting, health - there are a number of 'things' we see as lacking in life.

This can make a person vulnerable to coaching that emphasises itself as a rescuer. But my view is that we don't need to be rescued, we really need to establish a nexus of control. Applying the Seven Pillars is just one way to do this.

If we can adjust our expectations about what we can so to serve life, rather than expecting life to serve us, then we can naturally evolve ways to cope better.  Victor Frankl devised a system called Logotherapy which worked on the idea that we can extricate ourselves from many of the dramas and crises of life by working out what our purpose in life is.

Begin by seeing yourself not as an isolated individual, but as part of a community. Read more.

See more people.

Become aware of yourself and aware of others.

Instead of focussing on the things you want, begin to focus on the things you need. Cultivate an ecology of the soul. put the seeds of a better outlook in, cultivate the ideas, grow them. Avoid toxic elements. Let nature do its thing - whether it blesses you with sunshine or tests you with drought - above all don't take things personally.
